Lindsay Meech (NZ), cornet; Ray Lewis, trombone/ldr; Dave Ridyard (NSW), clarinet; Ken Cowan, piano; Peter Grey, bass; Lynn Wallis, drums. Once more Lindsay Meech is visiting these shores to play with the Dixie Heroes. For the last five years Lindsay has guested with the band, and this year’s lineup is better than ever as you can see. As most jazz fans know, Lindsay is generally regarded as New Zealand’s best trad jazz trumpeter, and should need no introduction. He has extensive international experience playing with jazz’s leading practitioners such as Art Hodes, Sammy Price and Australia’s Paul Furniss. He has led his own band at the Sacremento Jazz Fest on three occasions. THIS NIGHT SHOULD NOT BE MISSED! |

Ian Smith, trumpet; Ian Harrowfield, reeds; Herb Jennings, trombone; Barry Hirst, leader, piano; Peter Hooper, bass/banjo; Kevin Simmonds, drums. The Grovelanders were formed in 1995 with guys from Grovedale or Ocean Grove. Four members from this band are still playing today. The band has many years of experience behind every member through all genres of music, and has found its jazz identity through the musical background of its members. Most of its repertoire is based on traditional arrangements but the band likes to leave its stamp on a tune with its own special arrangements |
